ABSOLUT KARLOFF is on page 32 of the January 2000 issue of Art In America magazine. This 1999 ad is a Steve Bronstein photograph of an Absolut Vodka bottle in its traditional presentation: white spotlight, black background. The difference here is that the bottle is tightly and completely wrapped in browning gauze (which is starting to unravel), much like The Mummy character in movies from the 1930s and 1940s (and 1999). The reference in the logo is to well-known actor Boris Karloff, famous for his movie portrayals of Frankenstein's monster and The Mummy, among others, in the 30's and 40's. Included below the logo is: Boris Karloff (TM) courtesy of Karloff Enterprises. |
